Berlin's fascinating and frustrating relationship to its unique history have had a large influence on urban design and architecture in Berlin.

Berlin has a very distinct relationship with its historical urban fabric. This relationship has evolved through several phases since the end of World War II – the evolution of design in this period could be compared to the phases of mourning for a dead family member. It has taken almost sixty years, but I think Berlin has finally recovered from its mourning.

Hotelontwerp: Westgevel

De overheersende definiërende vorm van het hotel is het beste zichtbaar aan de westgevel van miniloft die direct naar de straat wijst. De westgevel is samengesteld uit drie verticale stroken. De eerste noordelijkste strook is van glas; de andere twee hebben een bekleding van roestvast staal. Deze stroken zijn ontworpen om het aantal materialen en overgangen tot een minimum te beperken. Door de details van de stroken zorgvuldig uit te werken, worden deze tot monolitische oppervlakken die de puurheid van de vorm van het gebouw benadrukken.
