Hip and unique, Berlin’s small fashion designers specialize in smart and edgy creations that are earning them ever more repute in the international fashion world. Take a tour of Mitte’s fashion district, located roughly between Torstrasse and Alexanderplatz: Konk showcases one of Berlin’s hottest labels, c.neeon (photo), whose new collection sports the whimsical title ‘One cannot live without champagne and gypsies’. Mykita means gorgeous eyeglasses and Flip Flop cute shoes, while Best Shop features a revolving roster of avante garde and independent designers – every two months there’s a new batch. And then there’s Apartment, a shop so chic it doesn’t deign to show its wares – the shopfront is an empty white room, the collection hidden down a flight of stairs.
