Hackbarth's
Thursday, August 4, 2011
Hackbarth has dusky gold walls set off by marine blue tiles, and the rounded bar is trimmed in bright brass. Perhaps this is why the patrons all seem so lovely, the mood so warm and relaxed? If you squint you could swear you were in an Edward Hopper painting.

Yellow Lounge
Friday, June 24, 2011
Classical music meets the club and shakes off its staid trappings with the Yellow Lounge series - monthly classical concerts in venues more known for indiscretion, booze and partying into the next day than the civilized stuffiness of classical concerts. This month, classical guitarist Miloš Karadaglić brings the sounds of Montenegro to the garden of Berlin's temple of techno, Berghain.

based in Berlin
Wednesday, June 8, 2011
Vibrant, relaxed Berlin is an artist's mecca - creatives of all stripes flock here to live their dream. The opening of the huge new Based in Berlin exhibition last night was a celebration of the city's young, international art scene. The exhibition features 80 up and coming artists who live in Berlin. Spanning the best galleries all over the city, the exhibition is a great chance to see what's happening in the not-so-established art scene.

Open air cinema
Friday, June 3, 2011
One of the many joys of Berlin summer nights is the open air movie cinemas that dot the city, called Freiluftkinos. Freiluftkino Kreuzberg is a favorite among expats due to their original-version programming and smart selection of box-office hits and art-house fare. Settle back into comfy lawn chairs with a beer and a snuggly blanket, in a lovely courtyard in the former hospital-turned-artist-colony Bethanien.

Torstraße
Friday, May 20, 2011
Torstrasse is loud, it's wide, it's dirty - and lately it's morphed into one of the most exciting streets in Berlin. In contrast to the sterile name-brand shopping to its south and the cutesy cobblestone cafe-filled streets to the north, Torstrasse is hopping with small galleries, junk shops, little designer shops, über-hip bars (Trust Bar).

Gestalten Space
Tuesday, May 3, 2011
Berlin-based Gestalten publishers have opened a huge, beautiful new space in Mitte devoted to their stellar vision of cutting-edge art, photography and design. It's gorgeous! The new, 350-square-meter shop and gallery is designed as a space for exhibitions and a 'platform for exchange'.

Gallery Weekend 2011
Wednesday, April 27, 2011
The sprawling Berlin Gallery Weekend is upon us again - the ante has been upped to 44 galleries, 44 openings, and of course parties all over the city. It's an easy stroll from the Miniloft apartments to the host of galleries on Linenstraße and Auguststraße and Brunnenstraße, or head south to Galerie Crone, Carlier | Gebauer and others east of Friedrichstraße.

Ticket B Architecture Tours
Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Ticket B Architecture tours are a boon for architecture buffs. Discover Berlin with the experts, on tours through the Parliamentary District, Potsdamer Platz, Embassies, Art Spaces in Berlin, and Sustainable Architecture in Mitte (and many more). Their newest tour, of Museum Island, shows you an insider's view of the restoration of the Museum Island according to David Chipperfield’s master plan, currently Berlin’s largest inner city project.

Landhaus Lemke
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Landhaus Lemke was Mies van der Rohe's last house built in Germany before he went into exile in 1938. This small, simple brick house certainly is a confirmation of van der Rohe's statement that "architecture begins if two bricks are carefully assembled.“

Kunstfabrik Schlot
Monday, March 28, 2011
Kunstfabrik Schlot has been the go-to jazz spot in East Berlin since right after the fall of the wall. Hidden in a back courtyard, it's the perfect night out from the Miniloft apartments, just around the corner. Monday and Thursday evenings there's even free entry!
