There's a massive WWII bunker a few blocks away from the Minilofts. Known in East German times as the 'Banana Bunker' (its cool temperature made it perfect storage for fruit), wild fetish parties rocked the concrete walls in the 1990s, until it was bought by Christian Boros in 2003 to house his highly impressive collection of modern art - over 80 contemporary works by artists such as Damien Hirst, Olafur Eliasson, Elizabeth Payton, Wolfgang Tillmans, Anselm Reyle, and Tobias Rehberger. The renovation by Realarchitektur, which just won a Berlin architecture prize, lasted five years and the private museum opened to the public in 2008. Guided 1.5 hour tours are the only way to view the 3000-square-metre collection; they take place every Saturday and Sunday (two tours per day are in English). Be sure to reserve the highly coveted tour spots far in advance!
