There's a thoughtful new exhibit at the "Tränenpalast", or Palace of Tears, the Friedrichstraße train station that served as a border crossing for a divided city. The many sad partings between East and West Berliners earned the building its mournful moniker. Forget Checkpoint Charlie - for a more intimate look at Berlin's fractured history, head to the building on the banks of the Spree River that remains as a monument to families ripped apart by the Berlin Wall.
