At Henne, a Berlin institution, chicken-loving West Berliners used to lick their fingers with a distinctive view - the Berlin Wall stood right smack in front of the entrance. The menu is simple and to the point: a half chicken (€7,50), fried to perfection in a buttermilk batter, served with country bread, and sides of potato or slaw (€3,50). They also offer Boulette (like little hamburgers) and Currywurst, which are no doubt good, but it's hard to imagine ordering anything besides the heavenly chicken. If you have room, try the classic Berlin dessert, Röte Grütze, red berry compote with custard sauce. The outdoor garden is shaded by trees and perfect on summer days, the dark wood-panelled dining rooms and bar are cozy and charming in the winter (keep an ear out for the chime of the old-fashioned clock). It's always crowded, so make a reservation or be prepared to wait at the bar. Not a place for vegetarians!
