The Tadschikische Teestube (Tajikistan tearoom) is a warm and welcoming treasure hidden behind the Neue Wache on the busy tourist hub between Unter de Linden, Museum Island and Alexanderplatz, the perfect spot for a break after a day wandering around cold Berlin. The entire interior - graceful carved wooden pillars, lush oriental carpets, wall hangings and ornate divans and cushions - was a gift from Tajikstan in the days of Soviet-GDR friendship (1970). Lounge on sumptuous divans while drinking one of 20 teas from around the world, in a tangible piece of GDR history.
