It’s a fine summer’s evening in Berlin: and you are in the mood for a bit of Big Band swing. But you also want to take a look around Berlin Zoo. What do you do? Conveniently for you, these two seemingly disparate activities combine for one night only thanks to Gay Night at the Zoo.

Gay Night at the Zoo is one of those quintessentially Berlin events – an almost free associative amalgamation of elements combined to create something that once you’ve stopped scratching your head at, actually turns out to be hugely fun. Come rain or shine, this annual event celebrates sexuality and swing music in the open air. And also in front of the elephant enclosure, with the music of the BVG (that’s the Berlin transport authority in case you were wondering) Brass Band providing the soundtrack to relaxed evening of gentle tapping – before the party heads into late night territory with DJ’s. Tickets are available to book beforehand – and thoroughly recommended as well.
