The city is relatively flat, spacious and full of sites that can be taken in via two wheels, making Berlin perfect biking fodder. So it’s no surprise that the Garmin Velothon – a mammoth race round Berlin’s centre and southerly regions, has grown to become Europe’s second largest cycle race, with some 13,000 cyclists of various ages and abilities getting on their bike every May.

The film sees the titular character in a mad rush across the city to save her boyfriends life. If you’ve never seen it, do – it’s an incredible look at post-war Berlin and one heck of a race against time.
