Berlin once again embraces a more conscientious approach to agriculture and the production of food thanks to its regular International Green Week 2013. From humble origins as a local market place in 1926, the Grüne Woche now welcomes 67 countries offering up some 100,000 global specialities for an audience of over 400,000 visitors.

The split between trade visitors and public indicates Grüne Woche’s dual purpose. On one side, members of the public can mooch from stall to stall, sampling gourmet treats and engaging with the industry on issues surrounding ethical production, distribution and consumption. With halls dedicated to livestock, plants, green energy, hunting and products alike, the programme list veers on the stuffed rather than starved, and there is always something for all ages. At the same time, the Grüne Woche plays home to the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture 2013, attracting ministers and representatives from the industry to discuss it’s future.

The partner country this year is the Netherlands – but with 14 federal states offering up their regional treats, getting your fix of German delicacies is our tip for those taking a trip from Miniloft.
