Wine and art: a natural pairing. While the free plastic cups of cheap red omnipresent at every gallery opening are always welcome, this weekend the VDP Prädikatsweingüter (German winemakers association) will offer up some classier vintages. As part of its centennial celebration, the VDP has teamed up with more than 70 of Berlin’s best galleries for a tasting of members’ wines on September 5th: 195 member estates will present their finest wines in conjunction with contemporary art. Guests can taste and ramble on their own accord, or participate in one of the 200 guided tours conducted by specially selected art guides and sommeliers. A large number of the host galleries are within walking distance of the Miniloft apartments, so feel free to indulge.

The colonnade of the old National Gallery on Museum Island will serve as a central information and meeting point, so you can get an overview of when and where what’s happening and join group tours (advance reservations recommended; some last-minute tours will be offered). Throughout the afternoon between noon and 6:00 p.m., you can either stroll or take one of the special shuttle busses from gallery to gallery. Alternatively, bicycles and rickshaws will be available at the colonnade.

The complete centennial program is on the VDP website (www.vdp.de) and will be updated on a regular basis.
