If the roundabout at Kottbusser Tor is the dirty, seething heart of creative Kreuzberg, the legendary club West Germany is a beating vein. A small, grungy, venue up a grim staircase through an unmarked entrance, its show schedule may be irregular but they go for quality over quantity, with select concerts (mostly in the rock and experimental noise direction) and art exhibitions. When it gets too sweaty revelers can head out onto the balcony for a bird's eye view of the elevated train tracks. They're inherently secretive so there's no website, but sign up for the mailing list at This email address is being protected from spambots. On November 4th and 5th catch performances for the big exhibition "Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em" at nearby Kunstraum Kreuzberg in Bethanien, with Theodor Strom, Max Hattler (+ Noriko Okaku), Scanner, and Oni Ayhun.
