The words ‘exposed concrete shell reinforced with steel’ don’t sound immediately appealing. But when you’re standing in the middle of one of the serviced apartments of Miniloft Mitte, it’s hard not to feel differently about them. The impressive floor-to-ceiling windows fill the space with light and the under-floor heating gives the minimalist rooms an unexpectedly warm, homely feel.

By joining a new stainless steel, organically shaped structure with a restored turn-of-the-century building, they've created a single unit that accommodates 14 minimalistic one-room apartments measuring 325 to 540 square feet each.

Miniloft, in East Berlin's trendy Mitte neighbourhood, has a steel-and-concrete exterior and 14 one-bedroom apartments. Some are in an old renovated part of the building and have a homely feel, while those in the new section have an industrial look, mixing stark white walls with exposed stonework.
