The Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch (Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts) has moved into the long-awaited new university building. Planning and construction of the new building has been fought for for a long time. All courses of study – Acting, Contemporary Puppet Theatre, Directing, Choreography, Dramaturgy and Play and Object – are now under one roof. For the first time in the history of the drama school, all teachers and students can work together in one place. Until the opening last year, the school had four different buildings throughout Berlin.
Plans to combine all courses of study under one roof had been in the making since the 1990s. However, they could never be put into practice.

In 2009, the plans became more concrete and it was decided to convert the former opera workshops in Zinnowitzer Strasse in Mitte into the common location of the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst. After holding an international architectural competition, Ortner & Ortner architectural office was able to sign the deal. After unexpected efforts by individual factions in the Berlin House of Representatives to cancel the building project in 2012 and after days of protests by the students, the construction of the building could finally begin.
Today, at the beginning of 2019, the university is at a new and promising starting point and can reinvent the high and widely recognized quality of education in the new space and with the interaction of all departments.

The new location in Zinnowitzer Strasse has two public stages. These two stages called OBEN and UNTEN are open to interested visitors. The schedule is available at the reception of Miniloft Mitte or online here.
